Rogers outplayed Anoka for all three periods, however, Anoka never quit, as they did not allow a goal in the third period. The Royals performed as a cohesive unit and were effective in cycling the puck, keeping it out of their opponent’s hands for the majority of the game. Rogers passed the puck well and pressured Anoka’s goalies all game long, putting up 40 shots compared to Anoka’s shot count of 15. It was Rogers teamwork and constant pressure that helped them secure the victory over Anoka.
Rogers Royals
- #7: Trey Frederickson- Senior Forward. Trey had a spectacular performance against Anoka’s goalies, putting up two goals the first coming at 14:03 in the first period followed by his second at 1:54 in the second period. He has a hard backhand shot which he utilized multiple times throughout the game and he has a knack for finding open ice. Trey presented a challenge to the Anoka defensemen as he exhibited excellent stickhandling and was able to escape pressure with ease.
- #22: Jacob Scharber- Senior Defender. Jacob was also able to put the puck in the net twice against both of Anoka’s goalies. His strengths come in the forms of a hard wrist shot and outstanding accuracy, as he was able to hit the top shelf right corner for both of his goals. He presented great defensive work as well, stopping a couple of 2 on 1 rush in the second and third periods without falling too deep into the zone.
- #9: Jake Jensen- Senior Forward. Jake is an all-around athlete, his strength and speed make him stand out from the rest of the players on the ice. He is a physical player who has a well-rounded hockey sense. Jake scored in the first period and had an assist in the second. He is a team player as he constantly was looking to set up his teammates with spot-on passes which exemplified his dominant vision. His goal came off a face-off when he moved smoothly past Anoka’s center and put the puck in the top right corner of the net. Jake verified himself as an outstanding hockey player and proved why his teammates trust him as their Captain.
- #33: Patric Loeffler- Senior Goalie. Patric deserves to be revered as a fearless leader on this Rogers Royals team. He was not afraid to make big plays when they mattered the most. Twice in the third period, he left his crease to make diving poke checks on explosive breakaways which could have easily provided goals in both situations. He made big saves all game long, most impressively stopping three shots while he was scrambling on his back. Patric played an excellent game and can be thanked for holding Anoka to one goal, especially against their workhorse forward Jack Novack.
- #20: Miken Miller- Sophomore Forward. Miken has set himself up to be a standout high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota. He gave Anoka’s senior defenders a run for their money as he was able to find open ice all game and make some incredible passes to his linemates. Miken is one of Rogers more physical players and he uses his body well, he put himself in position time after time to make clean checks along the boards. His use of his body helped him get the puck away from Anoka’s forwards and keep the pressure on in their zone.
Anoka Tornadoes
- #14: Jack Novack- Junior Forward. Jack stood out as a well-rounded player and someone who led his team all game long even when being down by 7 late in the contest. He accounted for the lone Anoka goal at 10 minutes into the first period. Jack maneuvered around Rogers defenders and ripped off a hard wrist shot under the arm of Patric Loeffler. He has quick feet and impressive stickhandling skills and he is not afraid to be physical along the boards. Novack is a team player as he made wise passes in the neutral zone all game long to progress into Rogers territory. Without a doubt, Jack put his team on his back last night and helped hold off Rogers from scoring in the third period.
- #25: Ian Andrea- Senior Defender. Ian is a strong skater and it takes a heavy collision to deter him from his path. He is hands down Anoka’s most physical player as he consistently used his body to get the puck away from the Royals. Although he is a defenseman he seized every opportunity he had to skate the puck up and force his way into enemy territory. Ian Andrea played a large role in the third period in helping contain the Royals offensive attack.
- #7: Matt Orr- Senior Forward. Matt has a great hockey sense and he worked to help his teammates find open ice. He had an assist on Novack’s goal, where he lead him perfectly which allowed Jack to get past the defender with ease. Matt was constantly hustling all game long and he never gave up, the same cannot be said about some of his teammates. He proved himself to be a gritty, hard-nosed hockey player last night and should continue to lead his team throughout the season.
