SubscribeALBERTVILLE– Prep Hockey Minnesota was at STMA Ice Arena on Thursday night watch the Knights take on the Bison. This game was all Knights from the beginning as they took a 3-0 lead within the first 4 minutes of the game. Buffalo had to sub a new goalie each period as their goaltending woes continued throughout the game. This my list of prospects that stood out from both squads, check them out.
Cody Kelly, Defensemen, St. Michael-Albertville (2020)
Kelly is a solid skater for the Knights and got his and their rally going tonight in the first period. He has a wicked slapshot that he certainly put on display on his 2nd goal that went top shelf against the Bison goaltender. He scored two out of the three goals in for the Knights in the first 4 minutes of the first period. Kelly is a solid hockey player but will play Baseball for the University of Minnesota next fall.
Zach Miller, Wing, St. Michael-Albertville (2021)
Miller was another exceptional wing scorer for the Knights last night. Scoring two goals and one assist, Miller was not the only key early but also late in the game when STMA had a commanding scoring edge on the Bison. Miller is already exceeding expectations for the Knights this season as he has 6 points on the year through 11 games as he had 11 points all of last season in 25 games.
Adam Flammang, Wing, St. Michael-Albertville (2020)
After tonight, it is easy to see why Flammang is in our top 10 prospect rankings. He’s an excellent player with the puck, has a great passing ability and can even score with ease even though the Knights were short-handed. Flammang is our highest ranked 2020 prospect who has not decided on where he will play hockey next year. He certainly is a Division I talent in the WCHA or the Big Ten.
Jake Braccini, Wing, Buffalo (2020)
Braccini gets my work ethic award tonight. Based on the 9-4 score, it wasn’t pretty for Buffalo but Braccini kept working hard the entire tonight on the ice. He put some Knights on display with his stickhandling and has a quick shot of the impressive handing of his stick. Kudos to Braccini for playing hard.
Luc Laylin, Center, St. Michael-Albertville (2020)
Laylin is a speed demon on skates for the Knights and had two key assists for STMA last night in their 9-4 win against Buffalo. Standing just outside of our top 10 prospect rankings, Laylin is another spark to this St. Michael-Albertville team that will be playing Division I hockey somewhere next year. He has a great hockey pedigree as his brother Casy Laylin (2022) also had a goal tonight and his father played professional hockey in Germany.
Joe Carothers, Defensemen, Buffalo (2020)
Carothers got the Bison on the board maybe a little too late last night. Carothers goal did look good in traffic in which he had 25% of the Bison scoring last night.
St. Michael-Albertville (4-5-2) will travel to Blake (9-3) on Saturday in what will be a huge test for the Knights.
Buffalo (4-9) will also get a huge test on Saturday as Eden Prairie (8-2) will come to Buffalo to face the Bison. The Eagles just took a significant loss last night to the Prior Lake Lakers by a score of 5-3.
