With most sports on hold and the 2020-21 season still months out, it’s time to take a look at teams from all over the State of Hockey and examine what happened this past season and what’s ahead. The next team we’re breaking down is Red Wing.

      How last season went

It was a tough season for the Wingers. There’s not really another way to put it. The regular season included a winless January, but Red Wing did find some success including a nice 4-1 victory on the road against Big Nine nemesis Winona.

When all was set and done, the Wingers finished with a 7-17 regular season record. That meant Red Wing was headed to the play-in round of section play where the Wingers saw their season come to a close.

      Who’s back and who’s gone

More bad news for the Wingers: Each of their top four point-getters and starting goaltender are graduating seniors. Gavin Lampe, Isaac French, Taite Luhman and Josh Rikli depart after combining for 45 goals and 51 assists. Aidan Coyle graduates after posting a .894 save percentage.

      What to expect next season

It appears that Red Wing’s best hope is to throw the 2019-20 season in the trash and start anew this fall. Maybe there’s a chance some fresh faces and new leadership will lead to the Wingers improving and becoming more competitive.
