With most sports on hold and the 2020-21 season still months out, it’s time to take a look at teams from all over the State of Hockey and examine what happened this past season and what’s ahead. The next team we’re breaking down is Cambridge-Isanti.

      How last season went

Through the first three games of the season, things were looking up for the Bluejackets as they won two of their first three games as they picked up wins against Minnehaha Academy and St. Paul Highland Park. But from there, things went down hill.

Over the next 22 games, Cambridge-Isanti won three of them. All of those wins came against Becker/Big Lake. Heading into the Section 5A tournament, the Bluejackets were heavy underdogs against Chisago Lakes and lost 2-1 in a close battle.

      Who’s back and who’s gone

This part is much more positive. Each of Cambridge-Isanti’s top four point-getters from last season and two main goaltenders are all set to return. Easton parnell is back after a 23-assist season and a team-best 32 points. Along with Parnell, Nate Schibilla, Jacob Ziebarth and Ryan Olsen are back after combining for 26 goals and 25 assists.

In net, Meghan Gibb will return along with Jonny Ziebarth.

      What to expect next season

Things have to improve, right? It seems nearly impossible for a squad with this many returning players won’t see increased success. But only time will tell.
