Grant Dean F 10th Grade – Mounds View
The first thing that stands out when you watch Grant is his size. Dean led the Loons in regular season goals with 7 and certainly proved why in the playoffs. Despite loosing in the consolation final, Dean recored 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 games. The Shoreview native creates space and time with his size putting him in the right spot to display his shot, which was one of the better shots in the whole tournament. Be on the lookout as Dean will most likely log some big time varsity minutes with Mounds View this year.
Abraham Carlson F 10th Grade – Moorhead
Not only did Carlson lead his team in goals, but his 12 regular season goals was third in the whole league. Carlson was a key piece for the Blue Ox as they won the championship. Carlson netted 3 goals with 3 assists for 6 points in 4 games in the playoffs. Abraham drives the play very well and is a threat on both ends of the nice. The 5’10” Moorhead native is a very strong 2-way forward but it’s his shot and vision that sets him apart from others. The Moorhead Spuds have a great future ahead of them and Abraham is a big part of it.
Murray Marvin Cordes F 9th Grade – Warroad
The first Blue Ox game I watched Murray caught my eye. He is aggressive in all zones which is something coaches and scouts adore. Murray’s aggressiveness makes opposing players panic and turn the puck over, this was shown throughout the whole tournament. Cordes is top 5 in the league in goals and second on the Blue Ox behind Abraham Carlson. The Warroad native has a very bright future ahead of him and being in 9th grade only helps him more.
Aaron Reierson F 10th Grade – Moorhead
Reierson set the tone for the whole tournament early in game one with a massive hit. Reierson a bigger forward who uses his size extremely well and to his advantage. Battling hard on the boards and forcing the other team to make mistakes are one of the many things he does well. Reierson his currently 3rd on the Blue Ox in goals with 13, after scoring a natural hat trick to push his team past Shattuck-St. Mary’s to advance to Nationals.
Aidan Petrich G 10th Grade – Mounds View
Mounds view graduated their long time starter Luke Ortloff this past season as well as his backup Elliot Lee. The Mustangs currently have 1 senior 1 junior and 1 sophomore (Petrich) goaltenders this year. Aidan is a very quick and agile goalie who also moves laterally very well. Extremely calm and cool goalie who isn’t phased by pressure one bit, which was shown in game 1 of the playoffs against the Moose. Aidan stayed calmed and poised turning aside all 23 shots he faced. In the four playoffs games he played Aidan had a 2.10 GAA and a .905 SV%. Petrich could find himself as the number 1 for the Mustangs very quickly if he keeps his play up.
