Today we take a look at the best senior goalies in the state and the ones that have taken the biggest jumps in the rankings due to their seasons. We look at five goalies throughout the state and say why they deserve to be on this list.
Wyatt Pilkenton Wyatt Pilkenton 6'4" | Goalie Grand Rapids | 2021 State MN | 6’4 Goalie | Grand Rapids | #18 Overall
Wyatt Pilkenton Wyatt Pilkenton 6'4" | Goalie Grand Rapids | 2021 State MN has been one of the top goalies in the state to start of the season- he is 7-1 and his one loss is to Hermantown where they shot 40 times and he had 36 saves still. Wyatt has a save percentage of .934 and has 3 shutouts in 8 games. His best game this season was when he held Hill Murray to 1 goal. Wyatt has a goals-against-average of 1.13 and has really been super consistent this whole year. Look out for him as an x-factor in the state tourney.
Jack Wieneke Jack Wieneke 6'1" | Goalie Maple Grove | 2021 State MN | 6’1 Goalie | Maple Grove | #20 Overall
Wieneke is undefeated this far with an 11-0 record. He has decent stats with a .920 save percentage and a 1.51 goals-against average. Maybe he is overrated and carried by his number one team, but he has some important games ahead to prove his rank. He will be noticed by college coaches if he continues this string play against tougher teams. Jack’s best game is when he allowed only one goal on 28 shots to a very solid Andover squad.
Carson Limesand Carson Limesand 6'0" | Goalie Benilde- St. Margarets | 2021 State MN | 6’0 Goalie | Benilde St. Margarets | #31 Overall
Limesand has had arguably the toughest schedule out of these five goalies. He has really passed the test as he is 9-1 and has a 2.00 goals-against average. He has not been that hot as of late, but his start of the season is when we ranked him as the number three goalie. His best game of the year was a 2 goal win against Blake. It is very impressive that he has not had a super bad game, and has had multiple solid games against top opponents. Gets a lot of credit for not folding against the state’s top competition.
Cody Ticen Cody Ticen 5'11" | Goalie Lakeville South | 2021 State MN | 5’11 Goalie | Lakeville South | #33 Overall
One of the most criminally underrated players of the rankings is Cody Ticen Cody Ticen 5'11" | Goalie Lakeville South | 2021 State MN . He has definitely had the top season so far out of any goalies and if we did an update he would be number one. That does not change the fact that his stock has never been higher. Lakeville South switches off goalies every game, but he has a 5-0-1 record with a .097 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage. Also has 3 shutouts in 6 games.
Alex Timmons Alex Timmons 6'0" | Goalie Gentry Academy | 2021 State MN | 6’0 Goalie | Gentry Academy | #37 Overall
The best goalie in ’A’ is Alex Timmons Alex Timmons 6'0" | Goalie Gentry Academy | 2021 State MN ; he has been nothing short of special so far for Gentry Academy. He has some good stats and is undefeated at 8-0, with a goals-against-average of .91. The thing is we have not had that big of sample size on Timmons just yet- he has only faced 97 shots because his team is loaded and does not allow a ton of shots. Also has not faced over 20 shots in a game, so he needs to be tested more to get more of a read. The projected ’A’ state championship is Gentry vs Hermantown, so he would for sure get tested against the Hawk’s potent offense.
