It prepares HS prospects the best for college and sends the most players into the NHL. I will be covering the top players from the Phase 1 draft, which is players drafted in 2005 or later. So, these players will play for this summer and go back to their respective HS teams. Let’s break down the top MN prospects selected.
#11 Pick- Landen Gunderson Landen Gunderson 6'1" | Forward Maple Grove | 2023 State MN | 5’9 Forward | Warroad
No surprise here that the first MN prep selected is Shaugabay. He finished his sophomore year with an astonishing 54 points. This player is most definitely a top-tier prospect in his class, and getting drafted so high in a prestigious league like the USHL proves that further. With two years left in HS, this can really propel his game and take him to the next level. Shaugabay was selected by the Green Bay Gamblers.
#15 Pick- Drew Stewart | 5’7 Forward | Minnetonka
The Minnetonka freshman who played bantams this past season was the next MN prep selected. He will be in the top 3 of the class of 2024 rankings that will be dropped this next season. Put this guy on your watch list to make some major waves in the HS scene very soon. He was picked this high by the USHL for a reason, as his potential is off the charts. Watch out for him. Stewart got drafted by Cedar Rapids.
#23 Pick- Tanner Luedtke Tanner Luedtke 6'0" | Forward Lakeville South | 2023 State MN | 5’9 Defenseman | Hermantown
Tanner Luedtke Tanner Luedtke 6'0" | Forward Lakeville South | 2023 State MN is the top Minnesota defenseman taken in the phase 1 USHL draft. He is ranked as the 4th best player in the class of 2023 rankings. Hanson finished his sophomore year with a very solid 29 points. This player has all the potential in the world as he is ranked as the number one defenseman in his class, and will only get better in the USHL. Hanson got drafted by the Sioux City Musketeers.
