The ones covered in this article were drafted in the later rounds of the draft- the 6th round. These players still have as good of a chance to be successful as the players that got drafted in earlier rounds.
Kyle Kukkonen Kyle Kukkonen 5'10" | Forward Maple Grove | 2021 State MN – Rd 6, Pick 162- Maple Grove HS
Kyle Kukkonen Kyle Kukkonen 5'10" | Forward Maple Grove | 2021 State MN had one of the best seasons that prep has had in recent years. Kukkonen finished this season with an astonishing 74 points with 31 goals and 43 assists. Some people around the MN hockey community think that Kukkonen got snubbed for the Mr. hockey award that Jack Peart Jack Peart 5'11" | Defense Grand Rapids | 2021 State MN got. Kukkonen got selected in the 6th round by the Anaheim ducks, which is a very nice landing spot for him. Kyle was one of the intriguing prospects to cover this year, so kudos to him on getting drafted in the NHL.
Cal Thomas Cal Thomas 6'0" | Defense Maple Grove | 2021 State MN – RD 6, Pick 171- Maple Grove HS
Cal Thomas Cal Thomas 6'0" | Defense Maple Grove | 2021 State MN is the next Maple Grove HS product to get drafted this season. Thomas is a solid playmaking defenseman, with a nice 6’0 174 lb frame. He finished this season with 5 goals and 21 assists, for 26 points. Thomas gets drafted in the 6th round by the Phoenix Coyotes- a very cool landing spot for him as well. Thomas is planning on playing one more year of juniors at Sioux Falls, then he will be playing at The University of Vermont in 2022-23. Thomas has a lot of potential, but we will see what he does in college.
