SubscribeOnly one current MN prep got selected in the 2021 NHL Draft, which we covered yesterday it was Brody Lamb from Dodge County. There are 7 former MN HS preps that got selected in the 2021 NHL draft. In this article we will be breaking down the top 3 selected, then in part 2 we will be looking at the next group of players selected.
Jack Peart Jack Peart 5'11" | Defense Grand Rapids | 2021 State MN – Rd 2, Pick 54- Grand Rapids HS
Jack Peart Jack Peart 5'11" | Defense Grand Rapids | 2021 State MN is the first MN former prep selected in this draft, as he was taken in the second round by the hometown Minnesota Wild. Peart is coming off of his MR. Hockey winning senior season where he had 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points for a defender. Those are super solid numbers for a defenseman, he is a solid two-way defender as he is super fast with and without the puck and has good physical play. Peart is currently playing with the Fargo Force right now; he plans on playing at Saint Cloud State this fall and winter. The time he debuts in the NHL depends on how he continues to develop in college. A great pick for the MN Wild.
Tristan Broz- Rd 2, Pick 58- Blake HS
Tristan Broz is a MN prep from Blake HS, that played there for 2 years before playing at the Fargo Force for the last 3 years. In Broz’s two years playing highschool he tallied 105 points with 49 goals and 56 assists. Broz ended up getting selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the draft this season. Broz has been very solid in the juniors in the last 2 years, as last year he had 51 total points in the USHL. Broz can score a ton and have a knack for his hungry scoring and playmaking ability. Broz is planning on playing with the University of Minnesota this fall. This pick was likely a steal for the Penguins
Jackson Blake– Rd 4, Pick 109- Eden Prairie HS
Jackson Blake has been committed to the University of North Dakota for a long time now. Blake is the main reason for Eden Prairie’s state championship this season- he tallied 58 points on 20 goals and 38 assists. Blake is one of the top playmakers in the draft, his 38 assists shows that. He is very fast and has super good hands to get around defenders and make plays. Blake got selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round of the draft. Blake looks like he is planning on playing one more year of juniors, then playing at North Dakota. There is a chance he plays at North Dakota this year, but we will see.
