The Big South conference contains New Ulm, Windom, Waseca, Minnesota River, Redwood Valley, Luverne, Marshall, Worthington, Fairmont. This conference has some very solid returning forwards, and a couple that are in our Prep Hockey class rankings! The next article will be the conference team’s top 3 and predictions! In this article, we take a look at the top returning goalies in this conference, and there are two players that I think are worthy of recognition of the best returning. This conference lost a lot of goalies from last year, so the conference should have a lot of younger goalies that will have to step up.
1. Dan Stubbe | Senior Goalie | Windom
Dan Stubbe is a returning Senior goalie and one of the only ones back to this conference. He returns to one of the top teams in the conference for the upcoming season. Stubbe had average numbers last year, with a 12-7 record and a GAA of 3.23, and a save percentage of .884. Stubbe needs to improve those numbers some more before he is considered the conference’s top goalie, but as of now, his experience puts him in front of goalies coming back in this conference. I think a solid year would be to have over .750 win percentage, sub 2 GAA and over .900 save percentage. We will see if Stubbe will be up to the challenge to step up and help his team out this year
2. Mitch Kotek | Senior Goalie | Minnesota River
Mitch Kotek has been playing goalie for Minnesota River for the past two years and has shared to starts, but this year the starting position should be his own. Kotek has a career record of 13-6, which is the main reason he is on this list. Kotek had an okay goal against and save percentage last year, with 3.23 and .899 respectively. This year with the full starting role, I see him getting more comfortable and developing into the conference’s top goalie by the end of the year. Mitch has a lot of potential this season and I am excited to see how he does.
