SubscribeWe are through the first week of high school hockey- there have been some very solid games. There were a couple of upsets, like STA over CDH. And there was a crazy comeback OT game with Edina beating Maple Grove. Each week this year we will be making an article of who we think are the three stars of the week. Let’s get right into it-
#1. Tyler Hennen | Kittson Central | Junior Forward
After laying two games of the season, Hennen is the goals and points leader. Kittson Central played Ely twice in the first two weeks of the season. In-game one, Tyler had 4 goals and 1 assist in his team’s 6-4 win. In the second game, he totaled 3 goals and 4 assists in his team’s 8-4 win. Hennen will likely be near the top in points at the end of the year, as he has 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points. Ely isn’t the best competition, but when you total 12 points in 2 games; you deserve to be on this list.
#2 Ricky Nelson | Academy of Holy Angels | 6’4 Senior Forward
Ricky Nelson got off to a very fast start for Holy Angels. After playing two games, he is at 8 points, with 6 goals and 2 assists. Nelson had a hattrick in both of his first two games, making him worthy of the number two spot of player of the week. Nelson played some lesser opponents in his first two games, but he is obviously a very key player to his squad. Ricky is an under-the-radar player, that is off to a super-fast start.
#3 Ben Dardis Ben Dardis 5'10" | Goalie Mahtomedi | 2022 State MN | Mahtomedi | Goalie
Ben Dardis Ben Dardis 5'10" | Goalie Mahtomedi | 2022 State MN is one of the top goalies in the state, and he proved that in week one stopping 40/41 shots on him this week. Dardis currently has a .976 save percentage, and a .50 GAA. He played some pretty solid teams, in Orono and Monticello. Dardis is very deserving to be named a player of the week, he is one of the best goalies if not the best goalie in the state.
