Right now, the Raiders are locked in at the #1 spot in Class AA, but probably won’t be the #1 seed in the section. That is due to the fact that St. Thomas Academy won both meetings between the two rivals in the regular season. Will they meet again in the section championship? Or will a team like Rosemount or Eastview surprise us all? We shall see! Once again for this section, we are going to name the Top 5 Players in the section and provide our predictions at the end.
Jaksen Panzer Jaksen Panzer 5'10" | Forward East Grand Forks | 2023 State MN | Cretin-Derham Hall | Junior | Forward | Prep Hockey #10 ’23’s
Jaksen Panzer Jaksen Panzer 5'10" | Forward East Grand Forks | 2023 State MN isn’t only a highly regarded player in this section, he is one of the top juniors in the state. The Northern Michigan commit has tallied 20 goals and 25 assists with one regular season game remaining on the schedule. Fisher’s biggest performance of the season came versus Blake where he netted 1 goal and added 3 assists in a 5-1 victory.
Drew Fisher Drew Fisher 6'1" | Forward Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State MN | Cretin-Derham Hall | Senior | Forward | Prep Hockey #13 ’22’s
Another Fisher, another top player in this section and the entire state. Clocking in at #13 for our Senior Rankings, Fisher leads the #1 Raiders in points with a whopping 54. There is a possibility for Fisher to become a Mr. Hockey finalist and he has proven that he deserves a shot. Drew is uncommitted here late in his senior season, but there is no doubt that he will have a bright future in hockey after school.
Marko Belak Marko Belak 6'1" | Goalie Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State MN | Cretin-Derham Hall | Senior | Goaltender | Prep Hockey #15 ’22’s
As one of the highly regarded goaltenders here on Prep Hockey, Marko Belak Marko Belak 6'1" | Goalie Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State MN is having a stellar season between the pipes. Belak has a record of 20-3 on the season and has played the majority of minutes, clocking 1146 minutes in the crease. Marko carries a Goals Against Average of 1.65 and a Save Percentage of .935, which are very solid numbers for this senior goaltender. Finally, I believe Belak will be a Frank Brimsek finalist as he has had a magnificent season.
Will Ingemann Will Ingemann 5'11" | Goalie Wayzata | 2023 State MN | St. Thomas Academy | Junior | Forward | Prep Hockey #22 ’23’s
Will Ingemann Will Ingemann 5'11" | Goalie Wayzata | 2023 State MN has stepped up big time for this Cadets team that is in a slight rebuild after losing a potent senior class from last season. As a junior, Cronin leads the team in points with 34 and tallied a combined 5 points in the two games vs rival and section opponent Cretin-Derham Hall. Pending a big upset, Cronin and St. Thomas Academy might meet the Raiders again in the section championship. The Cadets have had their number as of late and the result out of this section will be interesting to say the least.
Will Skahan Will Skahan 6'3" | Defense St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN | St. Thomas Academy | Sophomore | Defenseman | Prep Hockey #2 ’24’s
Will Skahan Will Skahan 6'3" | Defense St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN is a highly praised sophomore defenseman on the Cadets and has helped stabilize the defensive core for this team. Skahan is very good defensively and also brings a good amount of offense to the table. The regular season is now over for St. Thomas Academy and Will finished the season with 10 goals and 11 assists, which are outstanding numbers for this young defenseman. Skahan is #2 in our Class of 2024 Rankings and I can assure you that you will be hearing his name a lot throughout the next couple seasons.
Predictions –
Carter: Cretin-Derham Hall
Despite losing to the Cadets twice in the regular season in tight battles, Carter believes the Raiders will prevail in the section playoffs and win when it counts.
Blake: St. Thomas Academy
Blake is going with the Cadets because they have been the kings of Section 3AA for years now and have a solid track record versus their rival Cretin-Derham Hall.
