He’s a Wisconsin commit, USA national team member, and a dang good hockey player to match. St. Thomas Academy defensemen Will Skahan Will Skahan 6’3″ | Defense St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN combines a broad 6-foot-4, 205 pound frame with solid puck skills and offensive capability to match. Against some of the best competition across the globe, he was named defensemen of the week after posting three points over the course of a two game weekend for team USA. The lefty has a rocket of a shot from the blue line, an integral trait for a good defensemen to have. He plays puck year round against high caliber competition, and this hard work clearly translates into him being one of the best prep hockey players in the country.
Javon Moore Javon Moore 6’2″ | Forward Minnetonka | 2024 State MN ‘s game can be best described as electrifying. The Minnetonka Skipper senior may be on the lighter side of this list, but his presence on the ice is too noticeable to pass up on.The 6-foot-2, 180 pounder is fresh off a junior campaign where he amassed 37 points in only 31 games. In the limited tape I could find on this guy, he was skating faster, playing smarter, and dishing the puck out at a higher level than anyone else on the ice. Moore committed to the Minnesota Gophers as a 16 year old, and that should tell you all you need to know about his game. There are no noticeable gaps or flaws in it, and this high level of play in the most competitive state for prep hockey should bode very well for his career going forward.
When you’re approaching Zdeno Chara’s height in skates as a high schooler, odds are people are going to notice. Jannes Kamp Jannes Kamp 6’5″ | Goalie Southwest Christian/Richfield | 2024 State MN is a mountain of a man, especially in a sport where height isn’t exactly the norm. The 6-foot-6, 207 pound rising senior out of Southwest Christian Richfield already takes up plenty of the net, and his play only further plugs it up. The goalie is surprisingly agile for his size, and his length allows him to pluck pucks out of the air from all sorts of angles and positions shorter goalies would be unable to grab. He was an all conference selection as a junior, but I didn’t see anything about his post prep plans. Hopefully, that will change soon.
He’s 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, and plays for one of the most prolific prep hockey teams of all time. Rising senior Ryan Lund Ryan Lund 6’2″ | Defense Warroad | 2024 State MN out of Warroad is the most enforcer esque of anyone on this list, and for good reason. He throws his weight around in an effective and legal manner on the ice, bashing puck handlers and punishing opposing offenses with his strength and powerful checks. He’ll send players helmet over heels, then fly down the ice and net a goal for his squad. The impact craters he leaves behind from his checks are multi faceted. Aside from intimidation, sending a man down onto the ice gives his team a brief opportunity to have a breakaway and a high percentage shot on net. He’s had an excellent prep career already, and his senior season should generate plenty more eyebrow raising hits and highlights.
