Get to Know Jamie Bazil
Bazil is an upcoming senior that sees the whole ice well in both zones he constantly plays in. Bazil calls himself a “two-way player” that will assist his wingers in the corners in the defensive zone as well as racking up clutch passes that will lead to assist in the offensive zone. Bazil leads the charge for the Spartans when it comes to faceoffs, being most successful when it’s his time to shine. Bazil said, “I fair better in the middle of the ice when I am controlling the play and distributing the puck.” He racked up 25 assists last season which was fourth overall on the Spartans roster.
Bests About Playing Center
Bazil is certainly a team-first guy, telling Prep Hockey Minnesota that being able to “control the play and setting him teammates up to score,” are his best parts about the position, being in the center of it all on the ice for the Spartans.
College Interest/Elevator Pitch
Bazil has an “open mind” when it comes to playing hockey at the next level, but at this time doesn’t have any specific plans about playing.
As for Jamie’s elevator pitch, he had this to say to the college or junior hockey programs reading this about his game:
My pitch to college coaches would be that I am a playmaker in the offensive zone, will create goal-scoring opportunities, and will do the little things right.
Bazil’s Work Ons this Offseason
Orono’s coaching staff told Bazil at the end of this season to lock in on improving his strength and his shot. “I took that seriously,” Bazil said to Prep Hockey Minnesota, as he said he’s been working out and shooting pucks just about every day this offseason. Bazil’s work ethic will get him places, as he not only wants to improve his game but he wants the team game to get the Orono Spartans deeper into next season.
Jamies’ Mentor
Bazil doesn’t have that locked in mentor, but he’s had some excellent coaches that have helped him out a lot along his hockey journey with Orono. “They shaped me into the player I am today,” Bazil said, as he told us his team mindset of always playing for his teammates and everyone that goes to battle every night with him for the Spartans.
Learning About Yourself
As a co-captain of the Spartans, Bazil learned a lot in his junior season about leading his team. “We were able to come together as a team and have one of the greatest regular seasons in school history,” Bazil said about his Orono Spartans, as the Spartans also did another thing, enjoyed the heck out of playing the great game of hockey. His motivation was lead this season by his ability to set his teammates up to be successful with whatever he does on the ice. His one goal next year? “Lead my team to the X!” Bazil said in his big goal for next year.
