How last season went
The troubles for the Cardinals started from the opening faceoff of the 2019-20 season. They lost each of their first six games. After putting themselves in that whole, they managed to go 3-14 the rest of the way. Redwood Valley’s wins came against Bagley/Fosston, Fairmont and Worthington.
The Trojans and Cardinals met up again in the play-in round of the Section 3A tournament. Worthington got some revenge as Redwood Valley’s season came to a close just one game into the postseason.
Who’s gone and who’s back
One reason for the Cardinals’ struggle is likely because of their youth. However, that experience may benefit Redwood Valley next season. Mason Clark, Carter Iwan, Chase Schablin and Marian Beladic all return after finishing as the Cardinals’ top four point-getters. They combined for 37 goals and 44 assists.
In net, Kia Jacobson is set to return after playing 18 games in net and posting a .837 save percentage. Camden Cilek graduates from the Cardinal program after posting a .843 save percentage in seven games.
What to expect next season
Based on the look of Redwood Valley’s roster right now, these players should be ready to go. Many of them now have at least one year of varsity experience under their belt. That should allow for the Cardinals to make some vast improvements from last season.
