Top Performers
Gavin Carlson | Senior | 5’11″ 175 lbs | Defenseman
Since making a position change from forward to defense, the Senior has scored a goal in each of his first two games. (2G Vs MV) and the only goal for Roseville against Cretin-Derham Hall. Usually when a forward moves to defense, one may worry about his ability to defend. Gavin Carlson has proven it is no concern for Scott Steffen, Roseville’s head coach. Gavin doesn’t shy away from the physical aspect of the game either which rounds out his complete game. Carlson’s offensive ability is shown when he joins the rush, which he does pretty frequently, making him a player to keep all eyes on from the opposing team.
Luke McCarthy | Junior | 5’7″ 155 lbs | Forward
In his first varsity season with the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders has 7 goals and 3 assists in 11 games. McCarthy had just 3 goals coming into Thursday’s contest between CDH and Roseville. Picking up 2 goals against Roseville gave McCarthy 5 on the year. The 5’7″ winger has a very strong shot, goal-scoring comes naturally for Luke. The quick-moving forward is extremely aggressive who always finds himself in the right position. McCarthy is a hard-nosed player who is quite physical despite his size.
Marko Belak Marko Belak 6'1" | Goalie Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State MN | Junior | 6’1″ 150 lbs | Goalie
The first-year varsity goaltender has carried a 12-1 record to his name with a .935 SV% and a 1.50 GAA. Despite letting up a goal early on the first couple of shots against Roseville, Marko seemed to dial it in, stoping 39 shots out of 40 in the 4-1 win. Roseville fired lots of high-danger shots against Belak, but Marko was up to the task turning away all 34 shots after the first goal. Belak’s rebound control is something that has stood out all year for Cretin and especially in this game. Belak covered everything he could get his hands on and was a huge factor in the win for CDH.
