Class of 2022- Top Uncommitted Defenseman
In this article:
A couple of days ago, we covered the juniors who we think are the top players not committed to a college. Today, we are covering the top junior defenseman in the state, and what makes them so close to receiving an offer.
Miken Miller Miken Miller 5'11" | Defense Rogers | 2022 State MN | 5’11 Defenseman | Rogers High School | #11 Overall
The junior from Rogers has 37 points with 9 goals and 28 assists. Miller is one of the best defensive playmakers in this class. This player has had such an impressive year, his stock has been jumping like crazy. I see him playing in a good prestigious league this summer to get more exposure- then next year I expect similar stats to this year. Good overall playmaking defenseman.
Zach Reim | 6’1 Defenseman | Gentry Academy | #12 Overall
Zach Reim has a solid 28 points so far this year with 10 goals and 18 assists- he is a two-way defenseman that knows how to put the puck in the net. Reim is averaging 2 points per game and is one of the best defensemen in ’A’. Reim is on a stacked high school team with other really good players already getting looks. Being on that good of a team will increase his chances of getting looked at by scouts. Gentry Academy is projected to make a deep run in the state tourney- Reim will get good looks there.
Conner Brown | 6’0 Defenseman | Gentry Academy | #16 Overall
Another top defenseman in the state playing for Gentry Academy. Brown has 6 goals and 21 assists for 27 points this season. He is also one of the best playmaking defensemen in the state. All the exposure from the state tourney will give him a better chance to get an offer as well. Brown is averaging 1.93 points per game.
Thor Byfuglien Thor Byfuglien 5'9" | Defense Roseau | 2022 State MN | 5’9 Defenseman | Roseau High School | #20 Overall
Thor Byfuglien Thor Byfuglien 5'9" | Defense Roseau | 2022 State MN is having a great junior year- the Roseau defenseman has 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points. He had 20 points last year in his Sophomore year, and also played in the high school elite league. Thor is the second cousin of NHL player- Dustin Byfuglien. Thor is averaging 1.56 points per game and his team is taking on Moorhead in the section final this upcoming week.
Carson Reed Carson Reed 6'1" | Defense Warroad | 2022 State MN | 6’1 Defenseman | Warroad High School | #21 Overall
Carson Reed Carson Reed 6'1" | Defense Warroad | 2022 State MN is just behind Byfuglien in the rankings as they have very similar stats, but Reed plays slightly weaker competition in ’A’. Reed has 21 points with 4 goals and 17 assists this season; last year he had 26 points in total with 7 goals and 19 assists. Reed is such a good playmaker, which is very impressive to college coaches and scouts. I think if he wants to impress even more he needs to be more two-dimensional and light the lamp some more. Reed is a very impressive player as he is a top ’A’ junior- he has had a great career and will keep adding points next year.
